A Highly Rated Engineering School at a Well-Regarded Private College
The University of New Haven in West Haven, Connecticut is a small institution with a large and comprehensive engineering program and a reputation for quality. The university, founded in 1920 as a private, secular school, is one of US News & World Report's "Best Regional Universities – North" and one of The Princeton Review's "Best Northeastern Colleges" and "Best 382 Colleges" nationwide. The MS in Biomedical Engineering requires a student thesis or a project in the area of biomaterials, tissue engineering, medical imaging systems, or digital image processing as part of the 30-credit curriculum. Faculty members have experience researching topics such as anti-clotting factors and biomaterials, nanomaterial synthesis, and computational chemistry.
The MS in Civil Engineering has a choice among four areas of focus: sustainability, environmental engineering, structural engineering, and construction management. The program's faculty has extensive research and professional experience in such areas as water resources, built-environment life-cycle management, contaminant transport, and bridge and highway design.

All students in the program must work on a major project with real-world applications to prepare for a career in networking, forensics, or security. Areas of faculty research include WiMAX, LTE, and machine learning.
Business-Oriented Graduate Engineering Programs
The MS in Engineering and Operations Management is a project-based program designed for engineering degree-holders. Students learn business concepts along with management-level engineering topics like supply chain establishment, customer relationship building, and planning. Faculty members' research areas include AI algorithms for production and manufacturing, Six Sigma principles and healthcare, and digital healthcare records.
The MS in Industrial Engineering program is open to students with a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related subject. Quality assurance, resource efficiency, systems optimization, and other large-scale processes and practices are the focus of study.
Online and Dual-Degree Graduate Engineering Degree Programs
For students seeking something different from the campus-based, single-degree experience, the university offers two other options. The Master of Science in Environmental Engineering, offered on campus, is also offered as a completely online degree program, consisting of 30 project-focused credits that can be completed in as little as two years. The dual MBA/MSIE degree program at the University of New Haven consists of 33 graduate business credits plus 36 industrial engineering credits. The program is open to students with an ABET-accredited undergraduate or technical degree and requires both an engineering research project and an MBA project.
Graduate Certificate Programs at the Tagliatela College of Engineering
Degree-holders who want to further their education in specific areas can choose among four graduate certificate programs tailored to professional requirements.
The Computer Programming Certificate covers C/C++ programming and data structures, plus a choice of coursework in Java, rapid software development, object-oriented principles, and systems or script programming.
The Project Management Certificate is a 30-credit program that covers project frameworks and lifecycles, schedule development, quality control, communication, and other key concepts.
The Quality Engineering Certificate covers quality analysis, probability theory, statistics, and either experiment design or reliability and maintainability.
The three day Six Sigma Certificate program culminates in an Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers Green Belt Certificate for students who pass the end-of-course exam.
Scholarships and Financial Aid for Engineering Students
Graduate applicants to the University of New Haven are automatically considered for a variety of merit-based scholarships. The university offers a number of merit-based assistantships for full-time graduate students to defray the cost of tuition and provide an earned wage. These include the Provost's Assistantship, which offsets 75% of tuition expenses and provides 15 to 20 hours per week of research or teaching experience, and the Dean's Scholarship, which covers up to half of the recipients' tuition.
