Professional Master of Arts Degree (MA) in Higher Education overview

The Professional Master of Arts degree in higher education provides students with a breadth of knowledge and experience in higher education, focusing on both student affairs and academic affairs. This collaborative program works with departments across campus and allows students to gain hands-on experience and networking opportunities in a university setting. Housed in the CU Boulder School of Education, the program offers a supportive community and flexible, evening and hybrid-online courses designed to accommodate busy professionals' schedules.

The demand for knowledgeable, ethical and diverse leaders in higher education continues to grow, with a projected job growth of nearly 10 percent until 2024 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). This comprehensive program positions students to be well prepared for a variety of opportunities in higher education and government agencies.

Higher Education Curriculum

The curriculum consists of 36-credits. Students engage in an extensive curriculum focused on three key areas of higher education: the foundations of higher education; research and evaluation; and higher education and student affairs practice in the areas of student and academic affairs, institutional administration, and diversity and community engagement.
