Salisbury University's Online M.S. in GIS ManagementSalisbury University, A Maryland University of National Distinction, offers a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Geographic Information Systems Management. In an effort to meet a critical need in the U.S. economy for expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and their deployment in both the private and public sectors, the Department of Geography and Geosciences developed this unique program that provides students with hands-on experience both with this cutting-edge technology and with the administration of GIS technology. The program is designed for non-profit, government, and business managers who are expecting to or are currently responsible for a GIS department, for GIS professionals who seek to shift into managerial positions, and for working professionals who would like to gain expertise in this fast-growing industry. The SU M.S. in GIS Management degree program is the only online program offered in the United States that specializes in GIS administration. Graduates of this program qualify for the education component of their certification as a Geographic Information Systems Professionals (GISPs). Students can choose to complete a full-time option within 1 year or pursue a part-time schedule that accommodates working professionals.

The M.S. in GIS Management Degree Program CurriculumThe degree curriculum provides graduates with both hands-on experience working with GIS software and the managerial knowledge that enables them to make use of GIS software to benefit organizations. In addition to the 2 in-residence courses students take during the summer, students complete the following required courses: "Advanced Geographic Information Science," "Organizational Behavior," "Database Processing and Management;" "Managing GISystems;" "GISystems and Public Administration;" "GISystems Co-operative Experience;" and "Capstone GISystems Seminar." Students choose 3 electives as well that best suit their career goals. These electives include "Leadership in GIS Organizations;" "Project Management;" "Principles of Technology Management;" "Strategic Management of Technology and Innovation;" "Economics and Financial Analysis for Technology Managers;" "Organizational Performance Management;" and "Managing People in Technology-based Organizations." Some of the electives are offered at the University of Maryland, University College.
