Rochester Institute of Technology

Established in 1829, the Rochester Institute of Technology is a private, coeducational university located in Rochester, New York in the northeastern region of the United States. 

A leader in preparing students for careers in the dynamic global environment, the university has a diverse range of programs from engineering, science, and technology to the arts, business, education, humanities, and social sciences. It consists of 9 colleges that provide career-oriented programs and experiential learning.

Saunders College of Business Overview

Saunders College of Business is one of nine colleges at Rochester Institute of Technology. Enrolling more than 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students, Saunders College of Business offers 14 undergraduate majors and minors, and 12 graduate degree programs. Business students share classrooms with artists, designers, engineers, and computer scientists and gain access to vast resources in business, technology, and design. 

 

With strong corporate connections built through an enduring tradition of cooperative education, Saunders delivers an applied curriculum that prepares students to be career-ready upon graduating. Employers value this approach, as evidenced by RIT’s 94% outcome rates across all Saunders programs.

 

In the 2020 edition of “U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges,” Saunders College of Business is ranked  #1 in Western NY, and #66 nationally for undergraduate business programs.

 

In 2019, Saunders ranked #8 in the top 25 online MBA programs in a “Princeton Review” list, after earning Top 10 placements the past four years since the inception of the “Princeton Review’s” comprehensive rankings of online MBA programs in 2015.

 

Saunders College of Business consists of four academic departments:

 

Finance and Accounting Department

Offers courses in risk management, information systems, taxation, and financial statement analysis.

 

International Hospitality & Service Innovation Department

Prepares students for roles in operations, strategy development, financial management, and marketing and technology.

 

Management Department

Prepares students to assume top management processes, decision making, and negotiations.

 

MIS, Marketing & Digital Business Department

Offers courses in risk management, information systems, taxation, and financial statement analysis.

Saunders College of Business faculty members bring a combination of real-world and academic knowledge of business problems to the classroom. A high faculty-to-student ratio allows Saunders to deliver small class sizes. Teaching methods include case studies, seminars, simulations, and independent work. Research is a vital component of Saunders College of Business. Featured research topics include: cybersecurity, digital marketing, strategic leadership, corporate game theory social media and entrepreneurship, fraud and litigation risk, auditing and pricing decisions, financial regulations, stock market trading algorithms, creativity in technology management, corporate social responsibility, social capital and work relationships, leadership, and IT adoption in U.S. healthcare.

Experiential Learning at Rochester Institute of Technology

Rochester Institute of Technology has one of the largest cooperative education programs in the world, annually placing more than 4,500 students in more than 6,200 co-op assignments with more than 2,200 employing organizations. A co-op gives students real-world job experience to help inform future career decisions. Students do not pay tuition while on co-op.

 

In most cases, co-op at Sanders College of Business begins after students have completed the first two years of their academic program. To fulfill the requirement, co-op students must complete one semester (fall, spring or summer term) of full-time employment (35-to-40 hours a week) or two semesters of part-time employment (15-to-30 hours).
